They did it once (2011)….. they trained even harder… they’re doing it again!!!
Team THULE has won the 2013 Adventure Racing World Championship in Costa Rica!!!!
An incredible performance, and hats off to these incredible athletes for running non-stop for over 7 days and covering the 815 km of the toughest race they’ve completed to date.
Few ultra-endurance teams have pushed themselves to such extremes to win their championship. With only 1h of sleep/day for 1 week, a teammate exhausted from fatigue, semi-unconscious at the end of the race not knowing where he was or the names of his teammates. No longer able to move… His teammates carried him across the finish line!
“I think it’s harder to win the second time around,” said Myriam Guillot. “It’s hard to stay on top, and we were determined to show that we’d been “lucky” in Tasmania when we won our first Adventure Raid World Champion title – that we were well organized and motivated. Secondly, we didn’t do so well in France last year (we came second after all) and we were desperately disappointed because the race took place in our country. This has made us even more determined to win this year.
It was also a historic victory, as they are the first team to win the AR world title twice. There have been a few double individual winners before, but never under the same team name. And for Jackie Boisset, Myriam Guillot and Stuart Lynch, it was their second world title. (Lynch won with Orion Health in Brazil in 2008 – he must love racing in tropical conditions!)
CHIRU bikes is a proud partner of the team, and we’re delighted that all the energy and passion we put into designing the bikes has helped the team win yet another world championship in probably the toughest endurance sport of our time!!! This clearly confirms that since its creation 4 years ago, the CHIRU brand’s dedication to endurance racing has been unwavering, and this title confirms our pioneering position in the highly specific and demanding ultra-endurance racing market. TEAM THULE is equipped with CHIRU PULSE 29er and LAKTIK 26er.
