The Chiru Nanulak was born of a collaboration between Willy Molonia of PA Cycling and Pierre-A Le Magnan of Chiru Bikes, with the clear aim of creating the best bike for the toughest bikepacking event on snow, the icy IDITAROD Invitational in Alaska, where temperatures can reach -40°C.
The name “Nanulak”, derived from the Inuktitut language, refers to the hybridization of the polar bear and the grizzly bear. Due to global warming, the territory of these two bears now overlaps, resulting in this new bear breed crossbreed. Like the Nanulak bear, this Chiru frame embodies the resilience and adaptability needed in the face of our planet’s changing climate.

Designed with a large rear wheelbase for greater directional stability and grip in snow, the Nanulak also provides ample luggage-carrying capacity. The most distinctive feature is its multi-standard crankset system, allowing either a Q-Facteur crankset for Fat tires or a narrower Q-Facteur crankset compatible with 29+ (3.0″) tires, much more anatomically comfortable to pedal.

The Chiru Nanulak MTB frame can be configured both as a fat bike with 27.5×4.5 or 26×5.0 tires and the ENVE Fat fork, and as a 29+ (3.0″ tire) with the CEC #480Tmax+ rigid titanium fork. The rear dropouts are adjustable over a 20 mm range, allowing fine-tuning of the bike’s wheelbase. You can also choose to fit a 100 or 120 mm telescopic fork for more technical terrain. There are pockets between the rear wheel and seat tube for a bottle cage or custom-made luggage to store your thermos flask or heavy, space-saving equipment.
